I loved Heroin Move Than I loved You
Robert A. Hall

They told me I was "special,"
Could do what I could dream,
They gave me all the freedom
Of unearned "self-esteem."

Because I was so "special,"
Drugs could not hurt me,
Though scattered all around
The ruined lives I see.

First I snorted powder,
Then went to needles too,
And in the end I loved
Heroin more than you.

I'd steal and lie to get it,
I'd sell my body too,
Because when you are "special,"
Rules don't apply to you.

I threw away my future,
It all went up my nose,
My kids are sad and poor,
But that's the way it goes.

First I snorted powder,
Then went to needles too,
And in the end I loved
Heroin more than you.

You found me on the floor,
A needle by my side,
Did I look "special" then,
In vomit when I died?

First I snorted powder,
Then went to needles too,
And in the end I loved
Heroin more than you.
